Vernissage: Unruly alphabets
Vernissage Unruly alphabets
The exhibition takes place 29.5.-8.6.2025 & 15.6-22.6.2025
The exhibition project "Widerspenstige Alphabete" (Engl.: “Unruly Alphabets”) refers to the famous poetry cycle “Alfabet” by Inger Christensen, whose work interweaves everyday occurrences with larger topics and world events in a fascinating linguistic structure, working via intuitive artistic means such as evocation and association and yet elaborately composed. Thus, “Widerspenstige Alphabete” brings together artistic positions that, based on the idea of an alphabet structure, poetically reflect the spatial-social structure of urban space in all its complexity in unusual ways. The 'Kotti' and the surrounding urban space at Kottbusser Tor are among the focal points of this artistic exploration. "Alphabete der Nachbarschaft" (Engl.: “Alphabets of the Neighborhood”) presents the results of a participation project with children, young people and residents of the apartment complex Neues Kreuzberger Zentrum. Guided by the structure of an alphabet, participants developed associative word chains and visual works that express their views of the neighborhood.
