Cancelled! Thus I came among the Germans: German-language poets and Hölderlin
Lection & Talk
The series of events dedicated to the 250th anniversary of Friedrich Hölderlin (17.-19. March) is cancelled due to the current situation and the internationality of the project and it is expected to be postponed until the beginning of September.
Four poets from former East and West Germany will be talking about “their” Hölderlin, about his ongoing influence within the German poetic tradition and, in particular, about the different esteem in which he was held in the western and eastern parts of divided Germany. How was Hölderlin seen in the Federal Republic, and what were the possibilities available for a young generation of poets to find an artistic connection with him? Why was it precisely Hölderlin the poet of the Odes who was at the centre of attention for the Saxon School of Poets in the GDR, and how was it possible for precisely his archaic stylistic idiom to become an instrument of subversion? With Marion Poschmann, Kerstin Hensel, Uwe Kolbe and Gerhard Falkner
Reading and discussion, presented by Meike Feßmann
German-English interpreting will be available for the event.
The Come! Into the Open series of events is sponsored by the Minister of State for Culture and the Media and the Literature Translation Institute of Korea (LTI Korea). We acknowledge the kind support of Literaturport and ECHOO Konferenzdolmetschen.
